Nets Rs. 1.5 Crores box ofice in its opening weekend

Mumbai, 7th April 2009: Eros International’s Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy cast its spell at the box office over the weekend, shattering the record for the biggest opening weekend for a Marathi film. The film, an Everest Entertainment and Mahesh Manjrekar co-production debuted in theatres across Maharashtra on 3rd April with an impressive Rs. 1.5 crores net box office collection with the film opening in 139 screens.

The Maratha maharaja is currently ruling the box office and is enjoying the kind of hysteria unprecedented for a Marathi film. Touted as the first hit of the year, the film is promising to leave its Hindi counterparts behind with its successful innings at the box office. Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy is being received with great enthusiasm across Maharashtra with public gatherings outside theatres in Sangli, Kolhapure etc in support of the film.

Commenting on the opening, Producer Sanjay Chhabria, Everest Entertainment said, “We knew we had a fantastic movie in our hands but the nature of mass hysteria around the release has been overwhelming. Marathi films usually pick up through word of mouth and don’t enjoy instantaneous success and the incredible opening that this film has received. This kind of response is a huge bolster for the future of Marathi cinema”.

Eros International has released Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy not just across Maharashtra but also other territories in Gujarat, Marathwada (Nizam), CP and Belgaum, setting new standards in the scale for a Marathi film release. Directed by Santosh Manjrekar and starring the cream of Marathi cinema – Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Suchitra Bandekar, Priya Bapat, Abhijit Kelkar, Siddharth Jadhav and Bharat Dhabolkar, the film revolves around the story of Dinkarrao Bhonsale (Sachin Khedekar) who shares his surname with the famed Maratha ruler (Mahesh Manjrekar) but that’s where the similarities end. In this light yet thought provoking and sensitive drama, Mi Shivajiraje Bhonsale Boltoy is an amazing story of an underdog’s fight against evil in society to establish his identity and keep his pride.
